Hotaro font is a bold display typeface with a Japanese look, built for headlines that need instant visual punch. Its chunky, wedge-cut strokes recall East Asian brush lettering, and the bright red used in the previews gives it the feel of a lantern-lit noren curtain.

The letterforms are heavy and angular, with stems that taper toward the baseline and flat, slanted terminals like cuts from a chisel-tip brush. The round letters carry a signature almond-shaped slit in place of an open counter, most visible in the “O”, “D”, “P” and “Q”.
