- Kazuno: Japan Brush Display Typeface
Type Tester
Product Detail
Kazuno font is a Japan brush display typeface with the raw, ink-on-paper energy of calligraphy brushed in a single sweep. Ragged edges and splintered stroke ends look like a dry brush dragged across rice paper, giving every word a hand-painted, East Asian feel.
The letterforms are chunky and slightly irregular, with thick bodies that fray into bristle streaks at the ends of strokes. Capitals are angular and bold, while the lowercase stays compact and rounded, with a friendly, hand-written bounce. Strokes vary in thickness and direction, so no two letters look stamped from the same mold. Numerals, punctuation and common symbols share the same brushed texture.
Kazuno suits sushi packaging, ramen and izakaya branding, streetwear graphics, martial arts posters, festival flyers and game titles. Set it large, use a bold red or ink black, and download it for your next project.
Key Design Characteristics:
- Frayed brush terminals: Stroke ends split into dry-bristle streaks, creating an authentic ink-and-brush edge.
- Chunky, uneven strokes: Thick, slightly irregular shapes keep the lettering lively and hand-painted.
- Angular capitals: Sharp, slashing forms in letters like “K”, “W”, “X” and “Z” add speed and attitude.
- Compact, rounded lowercase: Short, sturdy small letters stay readable and friendly in mixed-case titles.
- Calligraphic rhythm: Quick direction changes in each stroke mimic the movement of a real brush.
- Matching numerals and symbols: Figures and punctuation carry the same brushed texture for dates, prices and taglines.
- Display-size legibility: The rough edges and heavy weight read best at headline sizes, as the shirt and packaging previews show.
